In April of 2019, my team and I spent a few days in L.A. recording an EP with Benny The Butcher of Griselda fame. He hadn’t dropped “Plugs I Met” yet but he was buzzing from his Alchemist & Daringer produced “Tana Talk 3” project. Over the past year and a half, he has blown up to become one of the biggest rappers in the game. He currently has the #1 hip-hop record out, produced entirely by Hit Boy, who just dropped an album with Nas and has made some of Kanye and Jay-Z’s biggest hits of the past decade.
Benny wasn’t signed when we worked with him. He had just secretly met with Steve Rifkin and Jay-Z, but he was still making rounds looking for that next step up. We recorded some of his best work and over the course of the next year, we shot some videos with him, discussed release dates and caught up with him at his shows.
The EP we recorded is 6 songs and features Conway, El Camino, & Rick Hyde with Benny featured on all of the tracks, showcasing our grimey and soulful beats. This 1 of 1 NFT is what is now commonly being referred to as an Audio NFT or Mixed Media NFT. It’s a piece produced by Chop La Rok and myself under the alias DFi, mixed by the legendary studio engineer Eddie Sancho, with the art and animation done by me.
We call it “Pyrex Picasso.” The inspiration came from a lyric in the song and I tried channeling my best Picasso by doing a cubist style and…
